Dad invites 26-year-old daughter to dinner with his 36-year-old girlfriend and her 13-year-old daughter, girlfriend excludes her from sitting with them when they get to the restaurant: 'My father's girlfriend told the host, "Table for 2"'

It doesn't feel very good to be in a situation where you have a sense that you're not wanted. Last weekend, I was third-wheeling with two good friends, and the whole time, I had a gut feeling that it probably wasn't ideal for them to have me there. They weren't being cruel to me, they weren't excluding me, and they weren't explicitly saying they didn't want me there; I just knew that they'd probably have a very different vibe if they were able to talk freely amongst themselves. 

Most people don't dare to say, "Hey, you're kind of interrupting my hang with me and my closest friend. Can you please buzz off?" They don't because they know it is cruel, and most people would rather grin and bear it through a social situation they don't want to be in than be outwardly cruel to someone who hasn't done anything wrong.

    UPDATE: I forgot to mention that next to the restaurant we went, there is a place that I usually meet with my friends and my father's gf knowns about it because she took me a couple of times. So maybe she thought I am headed that way?

    RoyallyOakie NTA...She knew what she was doing. Nobody just "tags along" to a restaurant without going in. Your father is only in the middle if he doesn't wish realize what his girlfriend is up to.

    MilMoixp OP Yea I forgot to mention but I updated the post now. She knows that very close to the restaurant there is a place I meet with my friends very often because she took me a couple of times there, so maybe she thought I am headed to the same place

    MilMoixp OP My father insisted, they didn't get to talk didn't have the time( I mean they did but seems that didn't ) I agreed and saw them in the car, I was ready to go out so I asked if they were heading to the restaurant and that I am coming too ( she knows that close to the restaurant me and my friends usually meet so maybe she thought that I am doing the same thing), didn't thought I have

    mxzf Seriously. If a household member gets in the car with you and follows you into the restaurant, you ask if they want to eat with you unless you're intentionally trying to be ride. If OP wasn't planning on eating with them, she wouldn't have followed them in to the restaurant.

    jittarao OP, to me, this reads like damage control. "Oh, I thought you were just tagging along. This is a little celebration just for her" There is no other way to interpret this. She didn't want you there. Just your dad, her, and her kid. Since dad isn't coming, she just wanted it to be them. If she wanted you there, she would have just corrected herself and asked for a table for 3. But she didn't.
